Lesson 4
Acts Chps.
6 and 7
33AD
Commentary: A lot
of things immediately begin to happen after the Holy Spirit came upon the
church. The apostles and other disciples, after being filled with the Holy
Spirit, began to preach with great power and anointing. Miracles were
performed before multitudes. As usual, satan stepped up his attacks against the
gospel and the word of God that was being preached by these devout anointed men
of God. Satan used many of the authorities, as he usually does, to persecute
the church. There were many of the priests, however, that became believers. The
word of God is sharper than a 2 edged sword; it divides the thoughts and
intents of the heart. It divides believers from the
unbelievers. It does that same work in families and relatives. When a person
reads or hears the word of God, it brings them into conviction or awareness of
the sins in their life. It reminds them of righteousness and judgement to come. Even today, some
members in a family will believe and live for Jesus and some won't.
Mathew 10 : 16
Jesus said the following
16Behold,
I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as
serpents, and harmless as doves.17But
beware of men: for they will deliver you up to councils, and in theirs
synagogues they will scourge you;18yea
and before governors and kings shall ye be brought for my sake, for a testimony
to them and to the Gentiles.19But
when they deliver you up, be not anxious how or what ye shall speak: for it
shall be given you in that hour what ye shall speak.20For
it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father that speaketh in you.21And
brother shall deliver up brother to death, and the father his child: and
children shall rise up against parents, and cause them to be put to death.22And
ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the
end, the same shall be saved
34Think
not that I came to send peace on the earth: I came not to send peace, but a
sword.35For
I came to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her
mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law:36and
a man’s foes shall be they of his own household
Commentary :
We see here, in this chp., some minor dissension between the believers over
chores in the church. The apostles advise them to choose 7 men to carry out the
everyday responsibilities. The 12 apostles wanted to concentrate on the
preaching of the gospel and work of miracles that Jesus gave them. One of those
men chosen was Stephen, who became the 1st martyr in the Church history.
We will see God use Phillip in a beautiful way, also in chp. 8 at the bottom of
the page. That event is what I call a Divine appointment. God gives us Divine
appointments also. Please check that important subject also in chp. 8. below.
You can read and listen to these chps. below.
